The journey your quality socks have taken
Do you ever wonder what kind of journey the quality socks you wear on your feet have taken? You've only witnessed the last part of that journey, but there was a lot that came before. You can read all about it in this blog post.
High-quality textile industry
It's no coincidence that Carlo sources wool and cotton for his high-quality socks from major yarn manufacturers in northern Italy. This isn't just because of his Italian roots , but primarily because the Southern European country is known for its high-quality textile industry and the production of luxury yarns. These are characterized by their:
- Fiber quality: high-quality natural fibers such as merino wool and Egyptian cotton for a softer, more luxurious feel
- craftsmanship: traditional methods are combined with modern technology
- innovation in new weaving techniques, dyes and finishes
- attention to detail: careful finishing of fabrics and yarns
OEKO-Tex Standard 100 label
The merino wool and Egyptian cotton bear the OEKO-Tex Standard 100 label. This is a health certification for textiles, guaranteeing that the yarn is dyed in the correct color without the addition of chemicals. In other words, it has been tested for substances that can be harmful to health and, for example, cause allergic reactions.
Hand-chained
The yarns we purchase are dyed based on our specifications and color samples and then transported to one of our workshops . Here, the high-quality socks are made using a machine. There are two types of machines. The older machines produce a sock without a foot, which still needs to be knitted separately. We use more modern—so-called "circular"—knitting machines from Lonati, which can accommodate nine colors, or nine spools of yarn. The sock is then closed immediately on such a circular machine. This is what we call "hand-knitted."
No noticeable seam
Contrary to what the name suggests, our quality socks are not hand-stitched, but machine-stitched. Stitching socks is a specific method for sewing seams. By joining the fabric edges with a loop-shaped seam, the seam is flat and imperceptible. This prevents irritation and blisters for the wearer. It goes without saying that stitched socks are more comfortable to wear than socks with a tactile seam. Stitching socks are generally considered a quality mark.
Fantastic wearing comfort
Once the quality socks are finished, they're washed to prevent shrinkage in your home after the first wash. They're then ironed on a hot iron and packaged in pairs—held together by a clip, logo, and label—before leaving the factory and being shipped to the Netherlands. Here in the Netherlands, they're stored at a sheltered employment agency we partner with, from where the socks are packed and shipped daily. From there, it's just a matter of ordering and buying before you can enjoy the fantastic comfort of our socks. To ensure you enjoy them for as long as possible, we'll also give you tips on how to keep them looking their best. Order them today!
